The urgent need for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions has spurred substantial research within the realm of catalysis for clean energy and environmental technologies. Among explored materials, carbon presents a variety of advantages concerning high-surface areas, excellent electrical/thermal conductivity, tunable morphologies, porosity, and nanostructures, and feasible chemical dopants and surface modification. Therefore, there has been growing interest in harnessing sustainable carbon-based materials for catalytic applications in recent years. This special issue is dedicated to spotlighting the most cutting-edge research and advancements in the creation and application of sustainable carbon materials for innovative catalysis.

Scope and Topics:

This special issue invites original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and news and views that explore various aspects of sustainable carbon materials for catalytic applications.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Innovative synthetic chemistry to design and prepare carbon catalysts
  • Carbon catalysts for heterogenous and homogenous catalysis, electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and bio-catalysis
  • Advanced ex-situ and in-situ characterization for carbon catalysts
  • Theoretical tools and simulations for carbon catalysts
