Professor Feiyu Kang has long engaged in the research of carbon materials and advanced batteries for energy storage.

He solved the problem of intercalation structure regulation and cleavage of natural graphite that applied to lithium-ion batteries, and promoted the rapid development of graphite deep processing technology in China. He invented aqueous zinc-ion batteries, and opened up the research and development field of high-safety multivalent secondary batteries. He proposed the construction strategy of dielectrically coupled ceramic solid electrolyte, which provided a solution for the industrialization of solid-state batteries.

The research achievements have published on Nat. Nanotechnol., Adv. Mater. and other prestigious journals more than 500 papers, with citations over 50,000 times, an H-index of 125. He has been consecutively selected as 2018-2022 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers. He has published a monograph on "Natural Graphite Deep Processing Technology and Its Application", and co-authored 7 Chinese and English books such as "Carbon-based Nanomaterials for Energy Storage". 150 invention patents have been authorized, including 12 patents in the United States, Japan and South Korea, and 31 patents have realized technology transfer and application.

He won the Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award, the first class prize of the Natural Science of State education Ministry of China, The First Prize of Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Award and The First Prize Technical Invention Award of China Building Materials Society, and also won the Ding Ying Science and Technology Award of Guangdong Province and the Shenzhen Mayor’s Awards for Science and Technology.

Professor Feiyu Kang is an expert of special allowance of the State Council, and was selected as a fellow of the Chinese Society of Micro-Nano Technology, an outstanding talent of the Guangdong Special Support Program and an outstanding talent of Shenzhen. He has presided over projects such as the Major Research plan from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Key R&D Program and Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

He served as the director of the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Carbon Functional Materials, the academic leader of the "International Innovation Team for Energy and Environmental Materials" in Guangdong Province, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "New Carbon Materials", the editorial board of "Carbon" and "National Science Review" (NSR).

He initiated and organized 17 times China-Japan-Korea International Symposium on Carbon Saves the Earth, and as co-chairs, organized 2 times international conferences (Carbon 2002 and Carbon 2011) and 4 times international conference on energy storage materials, and established an important international academic exchange platform.
